What’s the buzz, San Miguel and beyond?!
Looks like things are moving along with the construction of the Bulevar de la Libertad, that big ol’ road that’s gonna connect us with our neighbors in Dolores Hidalgo. Our state governor, Libia Denisse García Muñoz Ledo, gave us the lowdown, saying that despite a few bumps in the road (literally and figuratively!), things are progressing nicely, and we might just be cruising on it by July or August. Fingers crossed!

Now, she did mention that the main headaches have been closer to our neck of the woods, San Miguel. Apparently, some of our vecinos filed legal appeals because of how the construction was affecting their properties. “We’ve been on it with the Infrastructure and Government Secretariats to untangle this knot,” the Governor explained during her visit. “According to the contractor, we’re still looking at a completion date between July and August of this year.” Let’s hope they can smooth things out!
Right now, they’re focusing on those 2.5 kilometers that are tied up in the legal stuff. The Governor’s optimistic that these issues will get resolved soon so the whole darn road can be finished and actually, you know, be useful. “What we want is for it to be truly useful along its entire length,” she added. Makes sense!
Libia Denisse also pointed out that this project isn’t just about getting from A to B. It’s about boosting tourism, culture, and the economy for the whole region – not just San Miguel, but also Dolores Hidalgo, San Luis de la Paz, and San Diego de la Unión. “We want a region that’s super connected by different routes. San Miguel’s already doing well, but we want that prosperity to spread to other areas in the northeast of the state,” she said. Amen to that!

We even heard from our local diputado, Ricardo Ferro, who’s being a bit cautious about those completion dates. While he acknowledged that they were 57% done back in January, he’s wondering how the heck the government’s gonna resolve the legal issues and that big ol’ train bridge, which sounds like a pretty important piece of the puzzle. “We’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, but we want to see how they’ll sort out the contested section and the railway bridge, which is the most crucial part,” he stated. Fair enough!
Ferro also had some concerns about the design, saying that some of the walls they’ve built are blocking access to homes, ranches, and businesses, which is hitting the locals in the wallet. Plus, he’s worried about potential flooding because of a lack of a solid plan for rainwater runoff. “The secretary needs to come and review all the impacts. All I’m asking is that things are done right,” he concluded. Can’t argue with that!
Bottom line? The Bulevar de la Libertad is a big deal for our state government, and it’s shaping up to be a key player in making it easier to get around and boosting the overall development of the northeast of Guanajuato. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they can iron out the wrinkles and get this thing done right!
Stay tuned for more updates, San Miguel! We’ll keep you in the loop.
