“Heroes in Scrubs: Local Nonprofit Aims to Expand Autism Support to Rural Areas!”

Sure thing, folks! Here’s a heartwarming story coming out of San Miguel de Allende.

The nonprofit organization, Niños con Autismo de San Miguel de Allende, is on a mission to extend its services to rural areas, aiming to detect autism early on in kids and provide them with the support they need for a brighter future. They’re raising funds to build a new center and set up mobile clinics to reach those rural communities—because let’s face it, not all heroes wear capes; some carry diagnostic tools!

For over ten years, this group has been working hard in the area. They started out helping just five kids, but guess what? They currently assist around 60 children! And most of these kids receive care for free or at a low cost, which is just beautiful if you ask me.

During a press conference, Sabrina Vergara, one of the therapists at the organization, shared that their ultimate goal is to create a proper therapy and evaluation center because the little house they’ve been using just isn’t cutting it for the growing number of kids who need help. They even plan to take the services on the road with a mobile unit that will help diagnose and support kids in their own communities.

Vergara emphasized, “Autism isn’t a disease; we want it to be considered a condition. It’s a different neurotype where people process information differently.” They’re all about understanding and providing the help families need, and it’s heartwarming to see their dedication!

To keep this fantastic work going, they’re on the lookout for donations. Monthly expenses have shot up to over $5,000 due to the free therapies they offer. Most of their clients are on scholarships, and they aim to assist as many kids as possible, regardless of their families’ financial situations.

Rocío Puig, the president of the organization, pointed out there are more than 1,000 children in San Miguel Garcia with autism. So it’s clear that they have their sights set on reaching even more families to provide timely support. They’re eager for donations and volunteers to join their mission—because, as they say, many hands make light work!

Based at Calle Paloma #16 in Residential La Luz, they cater to kids aged one to 16 years and can provide tax-deductible receipts for both national and U.S. taxes. So, not only do you get to help change lives; you can snag a tax break too!
