Hello San Miguel de Allende! Grab your coffee and let’s dive into some juicy news.
Today, we’ve got a great community development story coming your way. Those savvy folks in our indigenous communities are rolling up their sleeves and getting to work, and here’s the scoop.
Starting this week, 22 rural communities in San Miguel de Allende are putting the pedal to the metal on road construction projects using funds from the FAISPIAM—yep, that’s the Fondo de Aportaciones para la Infraestructura Social. In a pretty cool move, these funds will be handed directly to community representatives, which means they’re calling the shots this time.
Speaking to Luis Eugenio Vargas from the Hermandad Hñä Hñu Chichimeca, he mentioned that their top need is better roads. “It’s all about applying these funds for streets and pathways first so we can work on some big ticket items like healthcare and education later,” he said. Sounds like a solid plan, right?
This weekend was pretty eventful as community committee members received their funds directly, so they can kick off construction without the typical bureaucratic headaches. We’re talking over 64 million pesos being funneled into 91 locations, with San Miguel de Allende snagging more than 16 million of that pie.
But not everything is sunshine and rainbows. Representatives from these communities are rightfully a bit anxious. “We haven’t had this kind of budget for infrastructure before, and honestly, we’re worried about doing it right. Not all of us are accounting whizzes!” said Salvador Noria. And he’s got a point; navigating logistics can be tricky territory.
In summary, our communities are gearing up to tackle their pressing road issues with newfound resources, and that’s definitely something to toast to. As always, it’s vital for everyone to pitch in and support this initiative as they navigate the bumpy road ahead—literally!
